From Detroit to Graz

Detroit is one of the biggest US-American Cities. It’s located at the Canadian border in the state of Michigan and it is home to 670,031 people. As the city contains several big motor companies, it is also known as “the capital of the automotive industry”. Since 2015, Detroit is also a City of Design, which was the reason for Bailey to come and study in Graz, a city with half as many residents as Detroit. Located between vineyards and ski areas, she spent a year studying Industrial and Information design in the Styrian capital.

When Bailey was asked which things she associates with her time here, she answered: “Many new friends, a lot of traveling, and, of course, shopping. I got so many ridiculous new pieces to express myself here.”

“I love the hat. Because of my hair, I can never wear hats and my natural curls. Finding that hat was huge for me because it allows me to express myself. It felt like it was made is me.”

Bailey moved from Detroit to Graz for her Erasmus program in 2018. Before she went back to the US in summer 2019, she invited me and some friends for a creamy, traditional plate of her home-made mac’n’cheese. I still remember how badly my stomach ached because I ate way too much of it but, honestly, it was totally worth it!

A few months after that I asked Bailey what she loves about the one specific item she chose: “It was one of my favourite, and probably most iconic, new additions to my wardrobe” she said,

“Not only do I love the deep rustic orange colour, but the fabric itself is detailed with intricate ribbing and SUPER THICK! It makes me feel beautiful and stylish when I sport this skirt.”

“I got this fitted skirt in Graz. It was one of my favorite and probably most iconic new additions to my wardrobe.”
